the 8 worst fonts
A recent post on Fast Company provides a list of The Eight Worst Fonts in the World according to the author. And ... YES ... it includes Papyrus, Brush Script, and Ransom Note (shown below), but alas, not Comic Sans.

two new a book aparts
Today I purchased and downloaded the latest two books in the A Book Apart series, just released today: Emotional Web Design by Aaron Walter, and Mobile First by Luke Wroblewski.
This series features well-written, and designed, quick-read books on hot topics related to Web design and development. The effort is spearheaded by Jeffrey Zeldman, long-time leading advocate for Web Standards. I have purchased all but one of the six books in the series in e-book format, so I can read them on mobile devices. Another book in the series, Responsive Web Design has been instrumental in the making of this site, helping me try out a new approach for making Web pages that adapt to desktop, tablet, and smartphone screen sizes through the use of flexible layouts and CSS media queries.

wipeout!
My favorite video game franchise is back in the news ... Wipeout 2048 will be one of the first release titles for the new Playstation Vita handheld device, the replacement for the PSP. No release date set, and I doubt that I will be getting a Vita, but hopefully a version for the PS3 console will follow next year. I did see a rumor back in June that domain names for both Wipeout 2048 and “Wipeout Trinity” had been registered.
I also love Wipeout because of the great design and branding that has always been a trademark of the series. On the Wipeout 2048 Facebook page, you can see a photo history of Wipeout packaging. My favorite Wipeout branding was the work done by The Designers Republic. Below are a poster and two magazine covers featuring artwork from Wipeout3.
